Oops!

I can’t believe it’s been 6 weeks since I last posted. Very naughty of me. Well, I shall catch up some time in the next couple of days. I have had Jai each week and he is growing so fast and doing new things all the time. He really is the light of my life and a treasure to spend time with. I have some awesome pics of him and I think he will have the best slide show of his life at his 18th or 21st birthday LOL.

Giggle monster

JUNE 20 & 21

I’ve been lucky enough to have Jai for 2 days this week. He has been an absolute delight – no teething or colds etc, make for one very happy little chappy (most of the time anyway).

Yesterday, he helped me test out some new backdrops that I bought for the studio. It’s funny because, when I shoot with the little digicam, he pulls this bizarre face to smile but, when we shoot in the studio, he is very natural.

I must have exhausted him yesterday because he slept like a log. He still get’s up with the birds (earlier I think) and I rugged him up in his little robe and slippers and he got on with things.

He loves a particular green crocodile toy that I bought him and he will spend hours with it, running it along the floor and over tables, chairs, you! I think he has a thing for green. I don’t leave the TV on all day for him but he gets to watch it in the early morning, then we play together or he occupies himself quite happily.

So he can throw a tantrum but, as you can see, his cranky pants moments don’t last long.

He does this thing where he stares and you and, very carefully, walks backwards. It’s quite funny and I tried to catch a video of it but didn’t manage. I did, however, get this gorgeous pinch and giggle clip.

Great Nanny’s Birthday

Mum was 81 today (June 11), so, as I had Jai, Courtney, Jai and I all took mum out to lunch. I took the camera with the intention of getting a photo of Jai with his great nanny but I got distracted with Courtney’s antics.

There is a playground at the bistro that is completely enclosed and worms it’s way up to about 3 or 4 metres of the ground via a tunnel. Courtney thought it would be fun to crawl through with Jai to the top. She didn’t figure on the heat inside the tunnel or how long it would take. They didn’t get off the ground level but Jai had a ball. Not so sure about Aunty Courtney though.

The only shot that I got with Great Nanny Phyllis in it was when she was walking in the background and Courtney was holding Jai’s hand as we left.

And then off we went to the shopping plaza so Courtney could exchange something. Jai loves to walk around but, as you can see, Courtney is still just a bit tall and has to lean over to hold his hand. He doesn’t mind though.

Failed blogger – redeemed?

Yes, that’s right, a big fat ‘F’ for blogging. Something I should be keeping up with but have been preoccupied with other things and not got around to it. So much has happened since April 18th so I’ll try and redeem myself and just give some of the highlights by date starting from April 24th. I’ve made each entry a separate post or I’d have to upload each image individually which would take ages to do and then take ages to download for you. If you like things in chronological order then start at April 24th. Posts from there on were posted tonight.

June 5th

As is common these days, Jai’s extended family is fractured due to divorces and remarriages etc. As a scrapbooker, I am keen for Jai to have as accurate a record as possible of his family tree and have tried to get photos of all his immediate and extended family for his album to show him who is who.

Unfortunately, due to family discord (every family has it) his paternal grandfather and great grandfather don’t have anything to do with each other anymore. I really wanted to get a 4 generation photo of them altogether but that proved impossible. I was led to believe that his great grandfather didn’t want anything to do with him but I figured I would try and contact him myself and just ask if he would mind one photo for Jai’s album.

It was a bit tricky trying to find him as I haven’t had anything to do with my ex-husbands extended family for many years and didn’t really know where to start (well, I did start with my ex husband, but he didn’t have any info that could help). So, thanks to my Google skills and some deduction based on what people’s occupations might be based on their interests that I remembered from all those years ago, I found a nephew who passed on my message. By the end of the day, Jai’s great grandfather had contacted me and agreed to meet for the photos.

Today, Marc, Coby, Jai and I drove to Bendigo to meet with Terry and his new family (at 71, he, and his lovely wife Flora are the proud parents of a 5 week old baby girl – Indiana Nicole). It was a lovely visit and I got the photos I was looking for but also learned couple of things that surprised me.

For a man who, I was led to believe, didn’t want much to do with family, he sure has a lot of family photographs holding pride of place around the house. Even more than that, Terry is not a collector (unlike me who battles to part with anything). He lives with the necessities of life but downstairs, he has a trophy room that displays the many sashes and trophies he has won in his successful cycling career. Surprisingly, hanging from the ceiling are two poster board banners that I made for my kids to wear when they went to watch him and their dad cycle at Calder Park. On one side it had C’mon Pa and the other had Come On Daddy. The kids weren’t even at school when I made these. That makes the boards 20+ years old. I was astonished that he’d kept such a thing and it gave me an insight into the sentiment that he attached to them.

We had a lovely day with Terry and Flora being very hospitable and a visit from Terry’s sister, the family historian, Vivienne and her grandson, Anthony. It was lovely to see them all again.

Terry lives in Bendigo for the Summer and Autumn and moves to his home in QLD for the Winter and Spring, so Jai probably won’t get to see him too often but, I feel hopeful that now that the connection has been made, Jai might get to know his Great Grandpa Terry, Flora and his Great Aunt Indiana (which sounds so funny as she is a year younger than him).

Oh Pammie. All these photos are priceless. I have never seen a photo of Marc being as proud and happy as what you have captured in these. Each and every photo is absolutely gorgeous. So very special. XO
